Designed by Jake Barrow Architecture, this contemporary barn-style residence proves that exceptional architecture begins with truly understanding the clients and building a close relationship between the home and its environment.

A Courtyard For The Whole Family

At the heart of this home lies a luxurious courtyard anchored by an infinity-edge pool, a design decision that fundamentally transforms how the family experiences the space. Acting as a focal point, every room and living area looks out onto it, creating resort-style living and a seamless transition between spaces.

The result is a home flooded with natural light, offering excellent passive climate control while maintaining that crucial connection between indoor and outdoor spaces that defines quality Australian residential design.

Contemporary Barn-Style Presence

From the street, the elevated gable roof makes an immediate impact, leaving a strong first impression. Meanwhile, the projecting wings and strong roofline deliver a powerful street presence while maintaining the home’s connection to its natural surroundings. It’s a perfect example of architecture that respects its place. This is a principle that Jake Barrow Architecture applies to every project.

Working With the Land, Not Against It

A house that sits on a sloping, tree-lined corner block always presents some challenges, but rather than fight it, the team from Jake Barrow Architecture worked in harmony with it.

Their solution was to embrace these unique land characteristics, allowing the home to sit naturally within its environment. The material palette chosen, including James Hardie Axon cladding and Rylock windows, was specifically selected to meet BAL29 bushfire requirements, allowing the residence to nestle comfortably into its natural setting while providing ample style, safety and functionality.

Seamless Flow, Peaceful Living

Inside, the spatial planning demonstrates the architect’s holistic approach. The flow between spaces feels effortless, each room transitioning seamlessly to the next while maintaining a peaceful atmosphere.

It was exactly what the homeowners were after; “Jake was an absolute pleasure to work with. “The whole process was seamless and easy for us…Jake goes above and beyond to help everyone, including us as the client, the builder, the council and more.”

A Collaborative Success

The partnership with Ahead Building Group proved seamless in translating architectural vision into built reality, ensuring the design’s intentions were executed with precision.

Further collaborations with Studio Alba Landscape Design (and their construction team) as well as Gallerie B Interiors, for interior specifications and styling; combined to ensure this home delivers purposeful quality and a balanced atmosphere from inside to out.

For Jake Barrow, who established his private studio in 2022 after nearly a decade designing forever homes across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula, Park Orchards Residence exemplifies what happens when architecture is genuinely personal. It’s a home that belongs entirely to its owners and its place: timeless, thoughtful and designed for life.
