After decades spent living on a farm in Lancefield, a couple made the decision to downsize — but not without intention. Still drawn to the natural beauty of Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, they set their sights on Daylesford, a thriving country town known for its wellness culture, local produce and creative community. When they came across a rare north-facing block perched on a hill just a short stroll from the town centre, they knew they’d found the perfect site for their next chapter.
Positioned high above the township, the site naturally called for a design that maximised both outlook and light. Large expanses of glazing were incorporated to capture the sweeping views and harness passive solar gain throughout the cooler months, creating a home that feels both connected to the landscape and naturally comfortable year-round.

The couple returned to a trusted name for the design: the same architect who had created their beloved farmhouse over 30 years earlier. This long-standing creative relationship gave the project a strong foundation of trust and shared values. When the owners mentioned their desire to incorporate Paarhammer windows and doors, their architect was immediately supportive, knowing the impact quality glazing would have on the home’s performance and aesthetics.
Windows That Make the Home
As part of their research into sustainable, energy-efficient solutions, the owners visited Paarhammer’s factory — and were instantly impressed. From Gippsland-sourced timber to Australian-made glass, everything about the product aligned with their values: high-quality, locally made, and environmentally conscious. Supporting a regional business that, in turn, supports local jobs and suppliers made the decision even easier.
The windows and doors became a defining feature of the design. The home includes custom-made lift-slide doors, tilt-and-turn windows, fixed panes, highlight glazing and a striking bay window — all crafted in Paarhammer’s Architectural Timber Range and factory-finished in low-VOC spray-painted stains.
“These windows make the house,” say the owners. “Visitors are always very impressed.”

Despite many builders preferring their own suppliers, the construction team was more than happy to work with Paarhammer — a collaboration that flowed smoothly from design to installation.
A Seamless Life Indoors and Out
The result is a home that feels generous, grounded and deeply connected to its setting. Every space flows effortlessly to the next, with the glazed openings creating a constant dialogue between indoors and out. Sunlight, landscape and airflow are all considered, enhancing liveability and comfort through every season.
Thoughtful design, enduring craftsmanship and a shared vision between architect, clients and makers have created something truly special — a downsized home that doesn’t compromise on style, performance or soul.
